We don't think it's enough to just make premium glassware. 2% of Origin revenue funds solutions that address the most persistent needs of those living in extreme poverty. Giving back is a cornerstone to our philosophy – our purpose that drives our desire to create a positive global social impact through creative products. We take a three-pronged approach to our giving with a focus on WATER, EDUCATION, and HEALTH. 

We take our grantmaking very seriously. We recently visited Ghana to vet Empower Playgrounds because their purpose aligns with Origin's. Clean water is essential to surviving in the extremes, education is the key to finding a pathway out of poverty, and greater hygiene enables females and children to achieve more. Empower Playgrounds has demonstrated an exceptional ability to lift thousands of children and villages in rural Ghana. They have local Ghanaian managers who report needs and provide support for equipment and projects.  

Empower Playgrounds engineers a merry-go-round system that generates electricity while primary school students play on it. The electricity charges battery-operated reading lanterns that students can take home after school to study and do homework. Most of these rural communities don’t have electricity or running water at school or in their villages. Empower Playgrounds also drills fresh water bore holes at the village primary schools so the children can quickly access clean water and continue studying. It not only makes learning more efficient, but also increases the health of the whole village who otherwise would be drinking from unclean ponds and streams.
